To inspire good.
Life needs to change. We have come to a time in which progress is no longer progress without revamping, rethinking, and reinventing what already exists. Our part in this is to help ignite the exploration of new thoughts and ideas.
Music moves and touches people in a unique way. It isn’t logical — it’s emotional. That makes it a very powerful medium. Composers have always contributed to progress by inspiring, whether they intended to or not, but now we must contribute to the changing world by refocusing our own motivations. Every time we write music, we have the opportunity to send a message, whether it’s literal or underlying. Don’t waste those opportunities. Let’s not use them just to gain personal “success”. Let’s consciously use our talents for something better than that.
Write music to inspire — to inspire engineers to design more efficient energy, to inspire consumer conscience, to inspire hope. Don’t write music for your own sake. Write to say something.
It doesn’t need to be literal, but your cause will come through, even if these thoughts are in the back of your mind.
